Cloud or local recording for CCTV
Record locally by default: a hard drive in the recorder costs once, keeps writing when the internet drops, and pays no monthly fee. Choose cloud only for the specific risk of the recorder itself being stolen or destroyed. The practical middle for Islamabad businesses is local recording plus motion clips from one or two key cameras pushed off-site.

Bandwidth is the hard limit
Four cameras streaming continuously to the cloud need more upload capacity than a typical PTCL or wireless-broadband line in the sectors can give up during working hours. Fiber connections in Blue Area and the newer societies manage better, but the office shares that line with actual work. Most cloud plans quietly drop to low-resolution or clips-only for exactly this reason.
The one problem cloud solves
A burglar who takes the DVR takes the evidence. That is a real pattern in shop break-ins. Cloud copies survive it — but so does a recorder locked in a ventilated steel cabinet, or a second recorder in another room mirroring key channels. Price those one-time options against a monthly fee that never stops before assuming cloud is the only answer to recorder theft.
Outages settle the argument
When the line drops — a cut fiber on a dug-up service road, a router rebooting after an IESCO voltage dip — a cloud-only camera stores nothing. A local recorder on a small UPS writes straight through it. Given how often twin-city connections hiccup, the system that cannot lose footage to an internet fault is the one holding the drive.

What does each cost over three years?
A surveillance drive is roughly PKR 18,000–30,000 once, lasting three to five years. Cloud plans charge per camera per month indefinitely — over three years they cost several times the drive.
Is footage safer in the cloud?
Safer from physical theft, more exposed to weak account passwords. Wherever footage lives, changing default credentials protects it more than the storage location does.
Rather have it done?
CCTV installation means a free survey of your shop, office or home, a camera plan that covers gates, counters and blind corners, cabling run through conduit, a recorder sized for the days of footage you want, and phone viewing working before handover. A four-camera 2MP package in Islamabad or Rawalpindi runs PKR 55,000 to 85,000 fitted.
