Split or window AC
Choose a split for almost any room you will use regularly — quieter, more efficient, and available in inverter models that window units largely are not. A window unit still wins where installation must be reversible, such as a rented room where drilling through a wall is not permitted.

Where the noise actually goes
A split puts the compressor outside, so the room hears only the indoor fan. A window unit has everything in one box in the wall, and the compressor cycling is in the room with you. For a bedroom this is the difference most people notice first, ahead of anything on the electricity bill.
