AC service & gas
What a full AC service covers — and what a cheap one skips
Around the twin cities, everything from a ten-minute filter rinse to a full strip-and-measure gets sold under the same two words. The table below lists the ten jobs a real service includes, line by line, so you know exactly what your PKR 4,000 buys — from us or from anyone else.
| Task | Full serviceFrom 4,000 | Filter wash~1,200 | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filters out and washed | Included | Included | The ten-minute job everybody does |
| Indoor (evaporator) coil washed through | Included | Not included | This is where the missing cooling usually went |
| Outdoor condenser fins cleaned | Included | Not included | Clogged fins cannot shed heat into the street |
| Drain pan and line flushed | Included | Not included | Monsoon humidity means more condensate — a half-blocked drain shows up in July as water down the wall |
| Blower wheel degreased | Included | Not included | Caked blades quietly halve the airflow |
| Gas pressures measured | Included | Not included | The only way to know whether the charge is actually low |
| Leak check before any top-up | Included | Not included | Refilling a leaking system is renting gas, not buying it |
| Terminals and wiring tightened | Included | Not included | Loose lugs overheat — a hazard, not a detail |
| Capacitor value tested | Included | Not included | A few-hundred-rupee part that decides whether the compressor starts |
| Outlet temperature logged before and after | Included | Not included | Numbers that prove the visit changed something |
Refrigerant
A healthy system never needs gas
Refrigerant is not fuel
It circulates in a sealed loop; nothing consumes it. A unit that keeps needing a top-up has a hole somewhere, full stop.
A yearly refill is a leak on instalments
Top up without a leak check and next summer you buy the same kilogram again. It is the quietest overcharge in this trade.
Trace it, fix it, weigh it in
Pressure-test the loop, repair the joint, then charge to the weight on the nameplate. Costs more once — then stops costing.
Service questions
How often does an AC need a service in Islamabad?
Once a year, before the season, for most homes. Twice a year for units running long hours — shop floors, restaurant halls, server rooms — or anything whose outdoor unit faces a main road, where traffic film coats the condenser fins faster than household dust ever would.
Is a gas refill part of the service?
No, and be wary of anyone who bundles one in by default. The service includes reading the pressures; gas is only charged for if the reading is genuinely low, and only after a leak check. A refill quoted before anyone has held a gauge to the unit is a guess you are paying for.
What does an AC service cost?
From PKR 4,000 for a standard split, covering every line in the table above — both coils, blower, drain, electrical checks and pressure readings. A bare filter wash runs about PKR 1,200 around the twin cities; fine as a mid-season freshen-up, not a substitute for the annual service.
Can you service office units outside working hours?
Yes. For Blue Area and markaz offices we schedule early morning or after closing so the room is back in use the same day, and a floor of units done in one visit is quoted as a batch rather than per machine.
