A clip will not export
An incompatible USB stick blocks more exports than anything else — recorders want a modest drive formatted FAT32 and silently refuse a large NTFS one. The second trap is file format: most recorders export a proprietary file that opens only in the maker's player, so copy that player out along with the clip.

Step 1: use a small FAT32 stick
Format an 8 to 32 GB USB stick as FAT32 and try again. Recorders are fussy about large drives and about NTFS or exFAT formatting, and most give no error — the export option simply fails or the drive never appears. This one substitution rescues the majority of stuck exports, so keep a small dedicated stick with the recorder for exactly this moment.
Step 2: export the player with the clip
From playback, set the channel, the start and end time, and export. When the recorder offers to include its player program, accept — the clip is often in a proprietary format that an ordinary computer cannot open, and a police officer or insurance assessor handed the file alone can do nothing with it. Where the menu offers AVI or MP4 as well, export both.
Step 3: export before overwrite takes it
The drive loops continuously, and once the oldest footage is overwritten it is gone for good. If an incident matters, export it the day it happens, not the week you get around to it; on a busy multi-camera system retention can be shorter than you think. This habit is the difference between having evidence and having a story about evidence.
