What the per-kW figure actually contains

A complete quote covers panels, the inverter, galvanised mounting structure, DC cable in UV-rated conduit, isolators and protection, the AC connection into your board, earthing, and commissioning. Panels themselves are typically under half the total. When one quote is materially cheaper than another at the same kW, the difference is almost never the panels — it is a thinner structure, unprotected DC runs, or the earthing left out.

Where the number moves

Roof type is the biggest single variable: a flat slab takes a simple ballasted or bolted structure, while a sloped or tin roof needs different anchoring and more labour. Distance from the array to the inverter adds DC cable. A three-phase connection costs more to tie into than single-phase. And a roof that needs strengthening before it carries an array is a civil cost that has nothing to do with solar and should be quoted separately.

What is usually not in the price

Batteries, the net-metering application, any upgrade to your existing distribution board, and civil work. Ask for each of those as a named line rather than assuming. A quote that says 'complete system' without listing them is a quote you will be adding to later, and the additions arrive after you have already committed.

Reading two quotes against each other

Put them side by side on five lines: panel wattage and count, inverter make and rating, structure material and gauge, DC conduit and protection, and whether net metering is included. Almost every price gap in this market resolves on those five. If a supplier will not itemise them, that itself is the answer.

Because they are rarely the same scope. The common gaps are a lighter mounting structure, DC cable run without UV-rated conduit, no proper isolators, and the net-metering application excluded. Has solar got cheaper in Pakistan?

What has not fallen at the same rate is the balance of system — structure, cable, protection and labour are local costs. That is why panels are now under half of a complete installed price, and why comparing quotes on panel price alone is misleading.

Should I buy a bigger system than I need now?

Only to the extent your billed units justify it. Oversizing against roof space rather than consumption is the commonest mistake we see, and those extra panels never pay back because the units were never going to be used. If you expect load to grow, buying a hybrid inverter with headroom is cheaper than buying two inverters later.
