Size the system from twelve months of bills

Not from roof area and not from a round number. We read a year of units off your IESCO bills, look at when you actually use them, and size against that. Systems sold from roof space alone are routinely oversized by a third, and the extra panels never pay back because you were never going to use the units.

Check the roof before quoting the array

Slab condition, shading from a neighbouring plot or a water tank, and where the structure can be anchored without cracking waterproofing. Afternoon shade from a boundary wall in a tight sector plot can cost more output than a panel upgrade will ever recover, and it is invisible on a satellite view.

Structure, DC side, then AC side

Galvanised structure at the tilt the latitude wants, panels torqued to spec, DC in UV-rated conduit with proper isolators, then the AC side into your board with its own breaker and earthing. Earthing is where cheap installs cut corners and where lightning damage later gets argued about.

Commission with numbers you keep

String voltages, insulation resistance and first-day generation measured and written down. That sheet is your baseline — without it, nobody can say in two years whether the array has degraded or a string has dropped out.

What the price covers. PKR 350,000 covers a complete 3kW on-grid system: panels, inverter, galvanised structure, DC and AC wiring, protection and commissioning. A 5kW lands between PKR 550,000 and 700,000, and 10kW near PKR 1,100,000. Batteries, net-metering application and any roof strengthening are quoted separately and named on the quote.

Questions people ask

How long until it pays for itself?

For a household using most of its generation during the day, a well-sized on-grid system typically returns its cost in roughly four to six years at current tariffs — and that range moves every time NEPRA revises them. Be sceptical of any quote promising two years: that arithmetic usually assumes you export everything at the buy-back rate, which is not what actually happens.

Why is another quote so much cheaper?

Nearly always because it prices panels and an inverter and leaves out the structure, the DC conduit, the protection, the earthing and the net-metering application. Ask any cheaper quote to itemise those five lines. Where a quote is genuinely cheaper on the same scope, it is usually a thinner structure — which matters the first time a strong pre-monsoon wind hits the array.

What happens on a cloudy day or in winter?

Output drops, materially. Islamabad's winter yield runs well below the summer figure, and a heavy overcast day can be a fraction of a clear one. An on-grid system simply draws the difference from the grid, which is why sizing against annual units rather than peak day matters — a system sized to cover a July afternoon is oversized for the other nine months.
