Match inverter, array and bank to each other
An inverter has a maximum array size, a charging current and a continuous output, and all three have to suit both the panels above and the bank below. Mismatches are the commonest fault we inherit — an inverter that cannot charge the bank quickly enough on a short winter day, or a bank too small to absorb what the array produces.
Site the bank where it can stay cool
Heat is what kills batteries here. The bank goes somewhere ventilated and shaded, off the floor, never in a sealed cupboard on a west-facing wall. A lithium bank in a hot enclosure spends every summer derating and ages years faster than its datasheet suggests.
Size the DC cable and fuse every leg
Battery cabling carries very high current at low voltage, so undersized cable is a fire risk rather than an inefficiency. Every leg is fused, with a properly rated isolator so the bank can be shut down safely for work.
Set charge parameters and prove a full cycle
Charge voltages, current limits and low-voltage cut-off are set to the actual cells fitted, not left at factory defaults. Then we run a full charge and a real discharge and record it, so you have a baseline capacity to measure against later.

Larger banks scale close to linearly with capacity. Lead-acid is cheaper to buy and, once cycle life and replacement are counted, usually more expensive to own.

Questions people ask
Lithium or lead-acid?
Lithium, unless the budget genuinely will not stretch. Lead-acid costs less up front and gives you fewer usable cycles, shallower safe discharge and a shorter life in this climate — so the cheaper bank is usually replaced twice while the lithium one is still working. Where lead-acid still makes sense is a system that cycles rarely, such as pure outage backup.
How long will the battery last?
A properly sized, properly ventilated lithium bank should give many years of daily cycling; the same bank in a hot sealed cupboard will give a fraction of that. Depth of discharge and temperature are the two variables that actually decide it, and both are installation choices rather than product choices — which is why we spend time on siting.
My inverter beeps and cuts out in the evening. Why?
Usually the bank hitting its low-voltage cut-off sooner than expected, which means it is either undersized for the load you have put on it, aged, or being asked to run something that should never have been on the backed-up circuit. We measure the actual capacity against the original commissioning figure — that comparison tells you which of the three it is.
