Solar for a house
A house consumes most of its power in the evening and generates all of it at midday, so the two never line up. That mismatch is the whole design problem: net metering fixes it on paper, a battery fixes it in practice, and which you need depends on whether you want a smaller bill or an unbroken evening.

The curve that does not match
Generation peaks between roughly ten and three. A typical household is at work or school then, and its load — lights, fans, television, cooking, air conditioning — arrives from six onwards. Without net metering or storage, a large part of the day's generation goes to a nearly empty house, which is why household payback lags a shop's on the same array.
Sizing against units, not against roof
Read twelve months of billed units and size to that annual total. Households oversize more than any other customer type, usually because the roof is large and the salesperson quoted to fill it. Those extra panels generate units nobody uses, and without net metering they are simply given away.
Where the battery decision actually sits
The honest question is not whether you want backup but which circuit you want backed up. Lights, fans, fridge and internet is a modest bank and a reasonable price. Add air conditioning and the bank multiplies. Splitting the board at installation is what makes the first option possible; retrofitting the split later is awkward and disruptive.
What most households end up buying
A hybrid inverter, an array sized to annual consumption, net metering, and a battery covering the essential circuit through a normal evening cut. That combination reduces the bill and keeps the house liveable during load-shedding, which between them is what almost every household actually wanted when they started asking.

Will solar run my air conditioners?
During daylight, yes — an array of adequate size runs ACs directly while the sun is up, and that is often when they are most needed. Running them from a battery after dark is a different proposition entirely, because an AC draws in an hour roughly what the rest of the essential circuit draws all evening.
How many units does a typical house need?
It varies far more than people expect — a two-bedroom flat and a large house with several ACs differ by a wide multiple. Which is why the answer is on your own bills rather than in a rule of thumb. Total twelve months of units before letting anyone quote you a system size.
Is it worth it if nobody is home during the day?
With net metering, yes — exports are credited against evening imports, so an empty house still benefits. Without it, considerably less, because the generation has nowhere to go. For a household out all day, getting the net-metering application through is a bigger factor in payback than any equipment choice.
Rather have it done?
On-grid is cheapest and dies with the grid. Off-grid runs independently but needs a battery bank sized for the worst week of the year. Hybrid does both and is what most Islamabad households actually want. Choosing between them changes the price more than any other decision on a solar quote.
