Fiber splicing and OTDR testing in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Fusion splicing joins fiber cores permanently, and an OTDR trace proves the join is good rather than merely passing light. Splicing with a printed OTDR result starts at PKR 3,500 per splice with a callout, and the trace is what turns a repair into something you can hold someone to.

Locate the break before opening anything

An OTDR reads distance to a fault along the cable, so we find the break to within a couple of metres before anyone digs or opens a duct. Cutting open a run to look for a break by eye is how a one-hour job becomes a day and a second fault.

Prepare and fuse properly

Strip, clean, cleave square, fuse, protect with a heat-shrink sleeve, and lay the splice into a tray with the correct bend radius. Most splices that fail months later failed because the cleave was off or the tray was overpacked, not because the fusion was bad.

Test bidirectionally and print the trace

We shoot the OTDR from both ends, because a splice can look clean from one direction and show real loss from the other. You get the trace and the loss figure in dB, printed, so the join is documented rather than asserted.

Label, dress and leave slack

Trays labelled, cores identified, and a loop of service slack coiled at each end. The next fault is far cheaper to fix when the person opening the enclosure can see what goes where and has cable to work with.

What the price covers. PKR 3,500 is per splice with the callout inside Islamabad or Rawalpindi, including the OTDR trace. Multi-core enclosures are quoted per core with a reducing rate. Emergency out-of-hours attendance for a link that is down carries a premium, quoted before we set off.

Questions people ask

Do I really need the OTDR trace, or is a working link enough?

A link can pass traffic across a poor splice and then fail in six months when temperature or a slight pull tips it over. The trace gives you a dB number now, so a marginal join is caught while the technician is still on site. On any link a business depends on, the trace costs almost nothing and is the only real evidence of workmanship.

Can a broken fiber be repaired, or does the whole run need replacing?

Almost always repaired. A fusion splice at the break restores the run at a fraction of a re-pull, provided there is service slack to work with. Replacement only becomes the right answer when a run has accumulated many splices or the cable itself has been crushed over a length rather than cut at a point.

How quickly can you attend a link that is down?

Inside Islamabad and Rawalpindi we are usually on site the same day, and the OTDR means we arrive knowing roughly where the fault is rather than starting to look. What we will not do is promise a fix time before seeing the trace — a clean break in an accessible duct and a crushed cable under a new road surface are very different jobs.
