Split the stock into coded and uncoded
Packaged imports and branded goods arrive with a usable barcode. Loose grains, local bakery lines and repacked items do not, and that split is usually sixty-forty in a twin-cities mart. We count both before quoting, because the uncoded half decides whether you need a label printer and how big it has to be.
Choose the scanner for the counter
A handheld suits a counter where items come out of a basket; an omnidirectional presentation scanner suits a high-volume till where the operator sweeps items past. Wireless costs more and matters only if the operator has to leave the counter to scan bulky stock.
Set up label printing and the code scheme
Uncoded items get internal codes printed on the label printer, generated by the software so no two items ever share one. We set the label size to the shelf and the item — a code that will not stick to a curved packet is a code that gets keyed in by hand.
Support the first stock count
The hardware is the easy part; the first full count is the actual work. We work through it with you, resolving duplicates and missing prices as they surface, because a barcode system built on a bad opening count is wrong for as long as it runs.
What the price covers. PKR 30,000 covers a handheld scanner and a desktop label printer with the first roll, set up against your software. An omnidirectional presentation scanner takes it to around PKR 65,000. Labels run roughly PKR 1,800 per thousand depending on size.

Questions people ask
Half my stock has no barcodes. Now what?
That is the normal Islamabad mart. Packaged goods arrive barcoded, loose and local items do not. A label printer lets you print your own codes for the second half, and the software generates them so nothing collides. The hardware is easy — the real work is the first full count, and we help with that rather than leaving you to it.
Can I reuse the manufacturer's barcode?
Yes, and you should wherever one exists — scan it once at goods-in and it is linked to that item forever. Printing your own label over a perfectly good manufacturer code is wasted labour and wasted label roll. Print only for the items that genuinely arrive bare.
What if two items end up with the same code?
The software prevents it when internal codes are generated properly, which is why we set that up rather than letting staff type codes by hand. Where duplicates already exist from a previous system, they surface during the opening count as an item that rings up as something else — we resolve those with you as they appear.
