Decide terminal or desktop honestly
A purpose-built touch terminal is tidier and survives a counter better. A desktop PC with a monitor does the identical billing job for around forty percent less and is far cheaper to repair here, because parts are on every bench in the twin cities. We tell you which one your counter space and budget actually call for.
Lay out the counter around the till operator
Scanner within a wrist's reach of the bag, printer where the receipt tears toward the customer, drawer under the counter on a slide that clears the operator's knees. A counter laid out badly costs a second on every transaction, which at four hundred transactions a day is a real number.
Wire power, drawer and display properly
The drawer opens off the printer, the customer display runs from the terminal, and the whole counter sits behind a UPS. A till that reboots mid-sale during load-shedding loses the sale and, on badly configured software, the stock movement with it.

Questions people ask
Touch terminal or a desktop PC — does it matter?
For billing, no. The software runs identically. The terminal is tidier, takes less counter and handles spills better; the desktop is cheaper to buy and much cheaper to fix, because any bench in Saddar or Blue Area has the parts. For a first counter on a tight budget the desktop is the honest recommendation.
Does billing stop when the internet does?
Not on a properly built counter. The software bills locally and syncs when the connection returns, so a cut fiber never freezes the till. Cloud-only systems that go blank without internet are the thing we are most often called in to rip out and replace, usually within a year of someone else installing them.
How many tills do I need?
Count your peak-hour transactions, not your daily total. One till comfortably handles a customer every ninety seconds; past that the queue builds faster than it clears and a second counter pays for itself in a season. Most marts that ask us for three tills actually need two and a better counter layout.
