The hard drive is clicking
Switch it off now. Clicking is the heads failing to position correctly and contacting the platter, and every power-on causes more damage to the surface holding your data. The first recovery attempt has the best odds — retrying it a dozen times is how a recoverable drive becomes an unrecoverable one.

Why retrying makes it worse
The click is mechanical: heads attempting to seek, failing, and resetting. Each attempt risks the heads touching the platter surface and scraping the magnetic layer where your data is. A drive that would have given up most of its contents on the first attempt can be beyond recovery after twenty, and this is the single most common way data is lost for good.
Do not open it, and do not freeze it
Both circulate online and both destroy drives. A platter exposed to ordinary air picks up particles that act like sandpaper under the heads. Freezing introduces condensation. Cleanroom recovery exists precisely because this cannot be done on a kitchen table, and an opened drive usually cannot be recovered afterwards even professionally.
What actually happens in recovery
A sector-level image is taken first, working from the copy rather than the original, so no recovery attempt risks the remaining data. Where the failure is mechanical — heads or a seized motor — that imaging has to happen in a cleanroom with donor parts, which is why physical recoveries cost considerably more than logical ones.
Deciding whether to proceed
Assessment at PKR 3,000 tells you what is genuinely recoverable before you commit to anything, and it comes off the recovery. That figure exists so nobody spends recovery money to find out the answer. Logical recoveries start at PKR 8,000; physical failures are quoted after assessment.
What does it mean when a hard drive clicks?
It clicked and now the computer does not see it. Is the data gone?
Not necessarily, but stop trying. The data is still on the platters unless the surface has been damaged where it sits, and that damage is caused by repeated attempts. Power it down, bring it in, and let the first proper attempt be a controlled one rather than the twentieth casual one.
Can you recover from a drive that is not spinning at all?
Often, and it is a different failure from clicking — a seized motor or a stuck head assembly rather than head contact. Both are physical failures needing cleanroom work, which is why the assessment comes first. The important thing is the same: stop powering it on to check.
Do SSDs click?
No — they have no moving parts, so clicking is exclusively a mechanical drive symptom. SSDs fail differently and often more abruptly, going from working to undetected with little warning. That abruptness is exactly why an SSD needs a backup just as much as a mechanical drive does.
