Fault-finding
The battery will not charge
Three candidates: the charger, the battery, or the charging circuit on the board. Test with a known-good charger first, then check the reported battery health and cycle count in the operating system. Age accounts for most of these — batteries are consumable in a way the rest of the machine is not.

Rule out the charger
A charger delivering some power but not enough will run the machine and refuse to charge, which is confusing because the laptop is clearly on. A known-good charger of the correct voltage and wattage settles it. Underpowered replacement chargers bought cheaply are a frequent cause of exactly this symptom.
Read what the machine says about the battery
Windows and macOS both report battery health and cycle count. A battery near or past its designed cycle life will hold little charge and sometimes refuse to accept any. That is a replacement rather than a repair, and the reported figures tell you plainly rather than leaving it to guesswork.
Check the DC jack and the charging circuit
The jack takes physical stress every time the cable is plugged in, and cracked solder joints there produce intermittent charging that comes and goes when the cable moves. Beyond the jack, the charging circuit on the board can fail — that is chip-level work, and it is usually far cheaper than the board replacement it gets quoted as.
The swollen battery, which is urgent
If the trackpad has risen, the case is bowing or the machine no longer sits flat, the battery has swollen. Stop using it, stop charging it, and bring it in. A swollen lithium cell is a genuine fire risk and the pressure will crack the chassis. This happens disproportionately with counterfeit batteries.
Why is my laptop plugged in but not charging?
My battery says 'plugged in, not charging' but the laptop works. Why?
The charger is supplying enough to run the machine but the charging path is not working — either an underpowered charger, a battery the system has decided not to charge, or a fault in the charging circuit. Trying a known-good charger of the correct wattage is the first and cheapest test.
How long should a laptop battery last?
A few years of daily use is typical before capacity falls noticeably, and heat shortens it — a machine that runs hot ages its battery faster. The cycle count and health figure the operating system reports is a better guide than the calendar, and it is worth checking before assuming a fault.
Is a cheap replacement battery a bad idea?
The counterfeit market here is real and a fake cell is a fire risk rather than merely a poor buy — they run hot, swell and fail early. Ask for the part number on the invoice so what you were sold is checkable. The saving is not worth a battery swelling inside the chassis.
Rather have it done?
Screens, keyboards and batteries are the parts that wear out or break on a machine that is otherwise fine. Replacement starts at PKR 12,000 for a screen fitted, and the part number matters more than the price — a panel that fits physically can still be the wrong resolution or connector.
