Something has been spilled on the laptop
Power off immediately, unplug, remove the battery if it comes out, and do not try switching it on to check. Turn it upside down to drain and bring it in the same day. Corrosion continues while the board sits, so speed matters more than anything else you can do.

The first two minutes decide the outcome
Hold the power button to force it off — do not shut down normally, which takes time with current flowing. Unplug the charger, remove the battery if removable, and invert the machine so liquid drains away from the board rather than through it. Every second of powered operation with liquid inside risks a short.
Do not test whether it still works
This is the single most damaging thing people do, and it is entirely understandable. Powering a wet board is how a repairable machine becomes a dead one — a short across the wrong rail destroys components that liquid alone would not have. Resist it, however tempting, and bring the machine in off.
Rice does nothing useful
It absorbs a little ambient moisture and does not touch liquid inside the chassis or the residue left behind. Meanwhile corrosion progresses. The time spent waiting for rice to work is time the board spends corroding, and it is the reason many spill machines arrive a week later beyond saving.
What proper treatment involves
Full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning of the board to remove residue, inspection under magnification for corrosion, and component replacement where tracks or parts have been attacked. Sugary drinks are worse than water because the residue is conductive and keeps working long after it has dried.
What should I do if I spill liquid on my laptop?
It still works after the spill. Do I need anything done?
Yes, and this is the case people skip. Residue continues corroding tracks and components for weeks, so a machine working today can fail a month later from the same spill. Cleaning it properly while it still works is far cheaper than repairing it after the corrosion has done its work.
How long do I have before it is too late?
Hours rather than days for the best outcome. A board brought in the same day, cleaned properly, has a good chance; the same board after a week in a drawer often does not. Speed is the variable you control, and it matters more than what was spilled.
Is water less damaging than tea or a soft drink?
Clean water is the least bad case because it leaves little residue. Anything with sugar or salt leaves a conductive film that keeps causing shorts long after it has dried, and those need thorough ultrasonic cleaning rather than drying. Assume the worst and get it cleaned either way.
Rather have it done?
Chip-level repair fixes the board itself — power rails, charging circuits, failed components — instead of replacing it. It is the difference between a PKR 12,000 repair and a PKR 60,000 board, and it starts with a schematic and a meter rather than with guesswork. Bench inspection is PKR 3,000.
