The laptop will not connect to WiFi
Establish whether it is this machine or the network: if a phone connects to the same network, the laptop is the problem. Then check the hardware switch or flight mode, then the driver, then whether the card sees any networks at all — that last point splits a driver fault from a card fault.

Test the network with another device
If a phone connects normally, the network is fine and the fault is in the laptop. If nothing connects, it is the router or the line, and no amount of work on the laptop will help. This costs ten seconds and it stops a great deal of misdirected effort.
Flight mode and the hardware switch
Many laptops have a function key or a physical switch that disables wireless, and flight mode does the same in software. Both get toggled by accident. If the machine shows no wireless networks at all rather than failing to join one, this is the first thing to check.
Can the card see networks?
A machine listing nearby networks but failing to join one points at credentials, the router's settings, or interference. A machine listing nothing at all points at the card being disabled, the driver missing, or the card having failed. That distinction directs everything that follows.
Driver, then antenna, then card
Reinstall the manufacturer's wireless driver. If the card is detected but range is poor, the antenna leads run through the lid and can be dislodged during a previous repair. A card that is not detected at all may have failed, and on most laptops it is a small replaceable module rather than a board-level repair.
Why won't my laptop connect to WiFi?
Other devices connect fine but the laptop does not. What now?
That confirms the laptop is the problem, which is useful. Check flight mode and any wireless function key, then reinstall the manufacturer's driver. If the machine cannot see any networks after that, the card or its antenna connection is the next place to look.
It connects but keeps dropping. Is that the same fault?
Different pattern, different causes — usually power management switching the card off to save battery, a driver problem, or genuinely weak signal at that spot. Check the adapter's power-saving setting first, because it is a common default and it produces exactly this intermittent behaviour.
The WiFi is slow only on this laptop. Why?
Often an older wireless card limited to slower standards, or one connecting on the more congested band. Both are card and configuration matters rather than faults. Replacing the module with a current one is inexpensive on most laptops and makes a real difference on a modern connection.
