Fault-finding
One camera has gone black
Power trouble or a corroded cable joint causes most single black cameras — the camera itself is rarely dead. Note what the recorder shows on that channel: a video-loss banner means no signal is reaching it, while a black image that still carries a timestamp means the camera has power but sees nothing.

Step 1: measure voltage at the camera end
Test the supply where the cable meets the camera, not at the adaptor. A long run through plaza trunking drops voltage on the way, so a camera fed 9 V from a healthy-looking 12 V adaptor blacks out while the adaptor passes every test at the socket. The sag worsens after dark when the infra-red LEDs draw extra current, which is why a camera that dies at dusk is pointing you at power, not at the lens.
Step 2: open the nearest joint
Cable seldom fails along its length; the joints fail. An outdoor connector wrapped in tape instead of housed in a junction box corrodes quickly in Islamabad's monsoon humidity, and a camera that quit after the July rains is usually exactly this. Cut back to bright copper, re-terminate, and put the joint inside a proper enclosure — that one change closes a large share of these callouts for good.
Step 3: swap channels at the recorder
Move the suspect cable onto a channel you know works. A picture appearing there means the recorder's input has died, not the camera — a cheaper problem, and sometimes just a spare channel away from solved. Still black on a good channel means the fault sits in the camera, its power, or its run, and you have narrowed the whole system down to one cable.
Why does one of my CCTV cameras show a black screen?
Is a black camera always a dead camera?
Rarely. On most visits the camera survives and the culprit is the supply, a joint, or the recorder input. We test in that order before quoting a replacement — a repair callout in Islamabad or Rawalpindi starts at PKR 3,000.
Why did it go black right after rain?
Rain finds unsealed joints. The camera often revives as the connection dries out, then drops again in the next downpour. That on-off pattern is the signature of water in a joint, not of a dying camera.
Rather have it done?
Security camera repair covers black screens, recorders that stopped writing, lost phone access after an internet change, and footage that will not play back. Most faults trace to power, connectors or settings rather than a dead camera. Callout in Islamabad or Rawalpindi starts at PKR 3,000, with the full fix priced before any work.
