Fault-finding
Moisture inside a camera
A failed cable gland lets in most of the water found inside cameras: rain tracks down the cable and enters through the rear entry, not through the lens window. Caught early, before corrosion reaches the board, the housing can be dried and resealed. Standing water or green deposits on the electronics usually mean the camera is finished.

Step 1: cut power and open the housing
Isolate the camera's supply before opening anything — water and a live 12 V feed finish a board that drying might have saved. Open the housing somewhere dry and look at what you have: a faint mist on the inside of the cover reads very differently from droplets sitting on the circuit board, and the next step depends entirely on which one it is.
Step 2: judge condensation against real ingress
Light fogging that appears in humid weather and clears by afternoon is trapped moisture from the day of installation, common after the first monsoon, and often harmless. Pooled water, drip marks or any green or white crust on the board is genuine ingress, and by that stage the seal has failed outright. Corroded electronics do not recover — replacement is the honest recommendation there.
Step 3: reseal the entry and add a drip loop
If the board is clean, dry the housing thoroughly, refit the seals, and make the cable entry off properly with a gland. Leave a loop of cable hanging below the entry so rain drips off the bottom of the loop instead of running along the cable into the camera. Both details are routinely skipped at installation, and both together prevent nearly every repeat of this fault.
Water has got inside my outdoor camera — can it be saved?
Are outdoor cameras not supposed to be waterproof?
They are weather-rated, and the rating assumes the installation was done right. Most water damage we attend traces to a taped joint or an unsealed cable entry, not to the camera failing at being a camera.
When do these failures usually show up?
July and August, once the monsoon tests every seal on the building. A pre-monsoon check of outdoor housings and joints is one of the more valuable items on a maintenance visit.
Rather have it done?
Security camera repair covers black screens, recorders that stopped writing, lost phone access after an internet change, and footage that will not play back. Most faults trace to power, connectors or settings rather than a dead camera. Callout in Islamabad or Rawalpindi starts at PKR 3,000, with the full fix priced before any work.
