The recorder keeps beeping
A repeating beep is the recorder raising an alarm, not a fault in itself. The three usual triggers are a failing or missing hard drive, video loss from a disconnected camera, and a motion alarm left enabled. The event log names the exact cause in under a minute — read it before silencing anything.

Open the event log
Every recorder logs what fired the buzzer, with a time and a channel number against each entry. Reading it replaces all guesswork: an HDD error means the drive, video loss names the dead camera, and a motion alarm means a detection zone needs tuning rather than anything being broken. Muting the buzzer without reading the log throws away the only free diagnostic the system offers you.
Treat a drive alarm as urgent
A drive reported missing, uninitialised or erroring almost certainly means recording has stopped — the one failure that costs footage every hour it continues. Surveillance drives writing around the clock last three to five years, and less when the recorder spends each June cooking in a sealed cabinet. Replacing a failing drive promptly is far cheaper than the first incident it fails to record.
Tell an alarm from a failing fan
Not every noise is the buzzer. An alarm is a steady electronic tone; a worn fan is mechanical, changes pitch as it spins up and often rattles. The distinction matters because a clogged or dying fan stops cooling the hard drive sitting beside it, which quietly shortens the drive's life. A fan is a cheap part, and cleaning or replacing it is minor work inside a service visit.

Can I just switch the buzzer off?
You can, and that is exactly how drive failures go unnoticed for months. Fix whatever triggered it and leave the buzzer armed — it is the only way the recorder can call for help.
It only beeps after dark. Why?
Usually a camera browning out when infra-red raises its power draw, firing a video-loss alarm each evening. That points at the power supply, not at the recorder doing the beeping.
